Outside my window... goldfinches! I hung a thistle feeder outside many months ago hoping to attract some goldfinches. Well, it got wet before any birds came and the seed got really rotten and nasty. So I finally cleaned it out the other day and refilled it and voila! We have goldfinches - and lots of them. But they sure are making a mess on our patio. Time to find a new place for the feeder.
I am thinking... about houses. Yes, we are thinking about moving. It is taking up a lot of my brain energy right now. It's complicated for us because we aren't just looking for any old cookie-cutter house on a small lot in town. We are looking for some very specific things, and it might be awhile before just the right house comes along.
I am thankful... for a large bonus from my husband's company.
In the kitchen... I made this fun snack mix for Lil Guhl's Little Flowers meeting yesterday. The February meeting is always the time to celebrate St. Valentine's Day.
I packaged it in cute little Valentine's bags. The girls really liked it!
Here's what's in it:
- 1 package (12.7 ounces) Valentine's M&M's
- 1 can (9-3/4 ounces) whole cashews
- 1 package (8 ounces) yogurt-covered raisins
- 1 package (3.53 ounces) dried cranberries
- 1 cup miniature pretzels
- 1 cup chocolate bear-shaped crackers
I am wearing... still in my pajamas this morning.
I am creating... shopping bags out of chicken feed sacks. More on this later - and probably a picture.
I am going... to make an appointment to use a spa gift card that my husband got me for my birthday back in December.
I am reading... My Antonia by Willa Cather. Trying to finish up before next week's book club meeting.
I am hoping... to do a better job at blogging. This is my first post for 2012 - woo hoo!
I am looking forward to... a beach trip that we are planning in late April. We are renting a house and my daughter and her husband are coming with us. (My daughter and her husband - did you get that??? It still feels weird to say it!)
From the school room: It's February - things are kind of dreary right now. Here's my lesson plans: "Do the next page."
Around the house... bought a new shower curtain for the main bathroom. It was time for a change. I actually bought two and used the second one to cut up and make a matching valance and panels (or 'hang downs' as my husband calls them!) for the window. I also bought a new soap dispenser and toothbrush holder. I am happy with the way it all turned out - sometimes it's the little things that can make such a difference.
One of my favorite things... having the yard all tidy in early February! The kids and I got outside the other day and did some yard cleanup. Aah - it feels so good to get a jump on spring and have things looking nice and tidy so early in the year.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
- A doctor's appointment for Boyson
- Piano for Lil Guhl
- Book Club (I am hosting!)
A very tolerant little cat.
