Habemus Papam!

How very exciting!
We have a pope!
Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Argentina who takes the name of
Pope Francis!

It has been very exciting to watch the coverage this morning!

I have to admit I haven't been paying too much attention to the actual times that everything would be happening.  But I did know that today would be the second day of voting.  I checked the news this morning at about 8:15 to see what time we could expect to start watching the Sistine Chapel chimney. I was surprised to read that it was about 5:15 p.m. in Rome and that the smoke would appear soon.

Listening to some of the commentary on the news, many people did not expect white smoke today, but probably tomorrow.  So after having the TV on for about 2 hours, we were very surprised when the smoke was white!  It was really a fluke that we even began watching.  I was hoping that it would be today as we have a lot on our schedule on Thursdays and would not have been home to watch.

O God, the Shepherd and Ruler of all Your faithful people, mercifully look upon Your servant Pope Francis, whom You have chosen as the chief Shepherd to preside over Your Church. We beg You to help him edify, both by word and example, those over whom he has charge, that he may reach everlasting life together with the flock entrusted to him. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
