"The animals are having a carnival, and guess who is coming? There's the majestic lion, the braying mules, the dancing elephant, and the bouncy kangaroos. The animals are having a carnival and you are invited. This accessible commentary on Camille Saint-Saens's classic piece allows children to follow each section of the music by listening to the accompanying CD. The whimsical illustrations, a simple text, and evocative melodies create an ideal introduction for young children to the world of classical music." - from the dust cover of the book
We are not music afficianados here, so we do more music appreciation than anything else. I bought this book for my kids a few years back, and it was a hit, so I have to give it a little plug. It has a full length CD included with the book.
My son got it off the bookshelf today, after many, many months of it sitting there. At age 11 and 9, my kids still enjoy looking at the pictures, listening to the CD, and now they can read the text all by themselves. They even remember what animal is represented in each piece of music. I wish there were more books like this out there. It has been very fun for my kids!
